In Windows 10, Windows 8, and Windows 7, a 0xc000000f error code message typically appears following an operating system update or the installation of a new program. It might look something like this:

Note: Error 0xc000000f almost always appears after a Windows computer powered back on or restarted to inform the user that the Windows operating system was unable to complete its startup.

The Reason for Error Code 0xc000000f

A Windows failed to start 0xc00000f error message is typically the result of a corrupted file, a damaged hard drive, or an infection with malware or a virus. Faulty or dislocate cables have known to result in the 0xc00000f error code message, as these cables can impair the system’s ability to properly access critical files.

How to Resolve Dell Error 0xc000000f Code ?

This problem affects both 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Windows 10, 8, and 7. Many workarounds have discovered to fix the problem and get equipment back online.

1.Adhere to the on-screen prompts.

Typically, a 0xc00000f error message is accompanied by a few actionable tips for repairing or restarting your Windows device. Continue to the next step if the device is unresponsive, the suggested tips do not work, or you are not provided with any system tips.

2.Substitute a soft reset for the hard reset.

For at least ten seconds, press and hold the power button on the Windows device. After the device has turned off, wait a few seconds before pressing the button again to reactivate it. This is a straightforward trick that frequently resolves any temporary glitches or bugs.

If your Windows device is restored to normal operation, run a system update to repair corrupted files and prevent this situation from occurring again. Additionally, you may wish to run an Error Check on each drive.

3.Disconnect any external hard drives.

On rare occasions, this has been known to resolve the 0xc00000f error code. Switch off the Windows device, remove any external hard drives, and then reconnect them. You may also want to disconnect any USB storage devices that are connected.

4.Disconnect all electronic devices and accessories.

Restarting your computer after disconnecting connected mice, webcams, and other electronic devices may also resolve the issue. If you connected an Xbox One controller or another video game controller to your PC, unplug the cables and disconnect any dongles used to connect the controllers.

Before disconnecting any hardware, ensure that your Windows computer or tablet is completely turned off and not in sleep mode.

5. Complete a forced shutdown.

For the Microsoft Surface line of products, a force shutdown is similar to a stronger restart, and it can frequently fix a buggy Surface device when a normal restart or shutdown does not work.

A force shutdown is performed on the latest Surface Pro, Surface Laptop, Surface Book 2, and Surface Go models by holding the power button down for 20 seconds or until the Windows logo flashes. Other Surface models may require a different method.

6. Inspect cables for damage.

If you have an open-able Windows computer, shut it down completely and disconnect it from all power sources. Then, disassemble it and inspect the wiring. Ascertain that the cables are securely attached and, if any are showing signs of wear and tear, replace them.

When cleaning your computer’s wiring or other internal components, avoid using a cleaning agent or another liquid. Rather than that, use a dry cloth.

Note: Certain Windows devices, such as the Surface line of products, are not able to open. Making an attempt to open a Surface voids the warranty. While desktop computers are typically suitable for inspection, it is prudent to consult the user manual and warranty documents prior to making any drastic physical modifications.

7. Reboot your computer.

If you’ve exhausted all other options and are still experiencing the 0xc000000f error message, restarting the computer may resolve the issue. This process reinstalls Windows but leaves your installed program and saved files alone. This option is available on the blue screen of death via the Advanced Startup Options menu. Choose Troubleshoot > Reset this computer > Refresh your computer.

8. Reset your computer.

Resetting a Windows PC should use as a last resort, as it deletes all data on the device and restores it to its factory settings. The option to Reset your PC is also available in the Advanced Startup Options recovery menu, under Troubleshoot > Reset this PC > Reset your PC.

Note: If you use a cloud storage service such as OneDrive or Google Drive, the files you save to these services can be redownload following the reset process. Similarly, apps and media purchased through the Microsoft Store or other online retailers can redownload.

9. Using the installation media, reinstall Windows 10.

A Windows 10 installation media is a Microsoft-certified program that you can download to a USB drive or DVD and use to reinstall Windows 10 on a damaged PC or new device. The files can be download from the official Microsoft website’s Windows 10 installation media page.

If you encounter the blue screen of death, download and create the Windows 10 installation media on the computer of a friend or family member. You can also create a recovery drive for Windows 8 if you use that operating system.

10. Insert the installation media drive into the affected computer once it has create. The computer should then restart and boot to the data on the drive. Once loaded, click Install Windows and follow the on-screen instructions to reinstall Windows 10.

Make contact with customer service. If none of these suggestions work or if you are unable to attempt these fixes due to an unresponsive Advanced Startup Options menu or system, contact the manufacturer of your Windows device’s official customer support. While this can be infuriating, keep in mind that if your warranty is still valid, you may be eligible for a free replacement or, at the very least, a discount.
